On June 12, 2019, Becton Dickinson or BD released a recall for BD Vacutainer® Fluoride Tubes for Blood Alcohol Determinations with lot number 8187663. Lot distribution began on August 31, 2018 and has an expiration date of 07/31/2020. The recall details vacutainer tubes missing the proper additive. Consequently, reported laboratory concentrations may not reflect the concentration obtained at the time of blood collection. I recommend anyone involved with cases involving blood alcohol determinations as of August 31, 2018, compare the lot number of their case-relevant vacutainer tubes to the lot number within this recall.
