Wonderful hosting Luna, a freshman Rice student, for a few days this week as a Rice University Owl Edge Extern. Plenty of great conversations and of course, some science too. Time will tell if a forensic career lies ahead. Best of luck Luna, at Rice and beyond! #OwlEdge
On June 12, 2019, Becton Dickinson or BD released a recall for BD Vacutainer® Fluoride Tubes for Blood Alcohol Determinations with lot number 8187663. Lot distribution began on August 31, 2018 and has an expiration date of 07/31/2020. The recall details vacutainer tubes missing the proper additive. Consequently, reported laboratory concentrations may not reflect the concentration obtained at the time of blood collection. I recommend anyone involved with cases involving blood alcohol determinations as of August 31, 2018, compare the lot number of their case-relevant vacutainer tubes to the lot number within this recall. I am happy to assist with any affected cases.
Please see the links below for additional information. The recall notice may be downloaded from link 1 below.

Wonderful hosting Adriana, freshman Rice student, for a few days this week as part of the Owl Edge Externship. Glad she was able to attend a Motion to Suppress hearing and speak to many colleagues, helping her determine if a forensic a career lies past college. Best of luck Adriana!

Thank you HACER for the opportunity to speak to entering Hispanic students and their parents at your New Student Reception about the importance of mentorship, both as mentor and mentee! SOLAR looks forward to a great year partnering and collaborating with HACER.
I walked away knowing the following great facts:
1) This year, Hispanic students represent about 20% of the entering class!
2) Ariana Engles became the first Latina to become president of the student body for 2018-2019!
Congratulations class of 2022 and Ariana!

I was summoned to Jury Duty in Harris County Precinct 5 today with Judge Ridgway. No trials meant we were all dismissed. Judge Ridgway spoke to us for about 15 minutes about the constitution and the importance of a jury of your peers. A fascinating and uplifting fact about the precinct is that we are able to donate our $6.00 for the day to one of 16 charities. I decided to donate my $6.00 to the Casa De Esperanza De Los Niños, Inc. I applaud Judge Rdgway and Precinct 5 for that great service and charity. Thank you!
Thank you to Coca-Cola and Rebuilding Together for organizing a service day on 05/19/2018 for Coke Scholars and Coca-Cola staff. Such a pleasure tackling a home affected by Hurricane Harvey, helping our city and community, and meeting Coke scholars and staff. Thank you also to Mayor Turner for paying us a visit. Our service day was a great one. #CokeScholars
